Thailand Medical: COVID-19 infections are silently rising across Thailand as latest data from the Department of Disease Control of the Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health shows that COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths are rising across the country.

Unfortunately, many local Thais and even expats residing in the country are oblivious of the worsening situation as mainstream media has stopped reporting on the COVID-19 situation and the health authorities are discreetly releasing the COVID-19 weekly data discreetly and only via a Facebook page that is not much visited! No media briefings are held and no media releases are disseminated to the media.

To make matters worse, many locals and expats are under the illusion that COVID-19 is no longer a threat and many have stopped masking and even taking any precautions.

According to reports Thailand Medical News has received from certain private hospitals across the country, both COVID-19 outpatient visits and COVID-19 admissions are rising at worrisome rates.

Many doctors are concerned that the authorities are not doing anything to warn the local population about the threat from increasing infections and about the new SARS-CoV-2 sub-lineages that are in circulation.

The COVID-19 situation is expected to worsen after the Songkran festivities which officially last from the 13th to the 15th of April, as millions have Thais have taken to the practice of crowded ‘water fights’ without any protection and are joined by millions more of tourist that were not subjected to stringent health screenings, with a significant percent most probably carrying news SARS-CoV-2 sub-lineages with them.

The government authorities should be held responsible if COVID-19 cases increase after the Songkran festivities for not issuing any warnings or informative announcements for locals to be aware of the growing COVID-19 cases and to take precautions.

Weekly COVID-19 Hospitalization Rate: 7th April - 13th April 2024.
Data released by the Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Disease Control shows that for the week 7th of April to 13th April 2024, there were a total of 849 new COVID-19 hospitalizations and 4 Deaths.

On an average there were about 121 n ew COVID-19 hospitalizations per day.

It was pointed out that because of the Songkran holidays that started as early as the 10th of April for certain entities and organizations, the reported figures could be inaccurate as some sources had failed to report data or submitted incomplete data and as such the actual numbers could be higher.

Also, it should be noted that these are just COVID-19 hospitalization figures. The number of asymptomatic and mild symptomatic infections could in in very high amounts and reflects that many individuals are at risk of long COVID and long-term health issues which is likely to burden to the country’s healthcare infrastructure.

Local health authorities do not divulge any COVID-19 data pertaining to actual number of infections per week or about number of COVID-19 test actually conducted or about COVID-19 test positivity rates.

Hence, whatever data that is being released does not reflect the actual scenario of the SARS-CoV-2 spread within the population.

Worrisome Rising Incidences of Medical Conditions.
Thailand is already witnessing a rise in cardiovascular issues including heart failures along with rising incidences of new onset of diabetes and hypertension, strokes and even cancer rates are increasing. Numerous published studies and cases reports have already linked COVID-19 infections and even possibly the mRNA jabs to these rising health conditions.

COVID-19 Hospitalized Cases And Deaths Since the Start of 2024
Cumulative COVID-19 hospitalized cases since January 2024 paints a broader picture of the COVID-19 crisis in the country. Since the start of 2024, a total of 8,589 patients have been hospitalized due to COVID-19 complications. 69 COVID-19 deaths were reported for the same period.

Comparison with Previous Week: 31st March - 6th April 2024
In order to contextualize the rising hospitalized caseloads, it is imperative to compare the data with the preceding week. Between 31st March to 6th April 2024, Thailand recorded 774 hospitalizations, averaging 111 cases per day. The week also saw three COVID-19 related deaths, averaging one death daily. This analysis reveals a substantial increase in both hospitalizations and fatalities within a short span, indicating a rapid escalation of the pandemic's impact.

In the week even preceding that ie 24th to 30th of March, there were only 728 hospitalized COVID-19 cases and 2 deaths.

Post Songkran Surge
Interestingly, there are no initiatives by both public and private hospitals or by the health authorities to prepare for a post COVID-19 surge and we at Thailand Medical News anticipate that the healthcare sector is possibly going to face an impact in the coming days and weeks due to possible exponential rise in COVID-19 caseloads.

Please note that that were are currently refraining from making any comments about circulating SARS-CoV-2 variants or even about sub-lineages as we have uncovered a lot of possible inaccuracy or even possible fraud or cover ups by various international ‘variant hunters’ and those responsible for designating the SARS-CoV-2 variants who are based in Europe (especially in the United Kingdom and Switzerland) and also North America and also data reflected on certain public platforms as it seems that certain entities are trying to downplay or conceal about the worrisome number of SARS-CoV-2 sub-lineages that are rapidly emerging and the worrisome mutations found on them in order to facilitate the narratives that the current COVID-19 mRNA vaccines are still effective!
