Medical News: COVID-19 Cases Climb Rapidly Across the Philippine Capital
The Quezon City government has reported a significant increase in COVID-19 infections, raising concerns as health authorities continue to monitor transmission trends across the city. According to the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (QCESD), confirmed COVID-19 cases for 2026 have now reached 146 following a dramatic rise over the past several weeks. In this
Medical News report, the latest surveillance data highlights a worrying resurgence while reinforcing the importance of public health precautions.
Quezon City reports a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases as health officials strengthen surveillance and urge residents to
follow preventive measures
Health officials revealed that only 23 cases were recorded between May 21 and June 10. However, from June 11 to July 1, infections surged to 84 cases, representing a striking 265 percent increase within just three weeks. While the number of confirmed cases seems relatively low, health experts warn that the actual amounts could be much higher as there is relatively very little COVID-19 testing being conducted in hospitals and clinics in the city
District 4 Emerges as the Most Affected Area
Surveillance findings showed that District 4 accounted for the largest proportion of infections, representing 32.7 percent of all confirmed cases, followed by District 1 with 22.4 percent. Barangay Doña Imelda recorded the highest number of infections with 11 confirmed cases. Meanwhile, Barangays Culiat, Salvacion, Santa Teresita, Santo Cristo, Sauyo, Socorro, and Tandang Sora each reported four confirmed infections, indicating that transmission is occurring across multiple communities.
Children Represent the Largest Age Group of Confirmed Cases
QCESD data also revealed that children aged 14 years and below accounted for 30 percent of confirmed infections, making them the most affected age group.
Adults aged 25 to 29 years and senior citizens aged 60 years and above each represented 16 percent of cases, while the remaining infections were distributed among other age categories. Women accounted for 66 confirmed cases or 62 percent of infections, compared to 41 cases or 38 percent among men.
Authorities Reinforce Preventive Measures
The Quezon City government continues active case monitoring and disease surveillance while urging residents to practice respiratory hygiene, wash hands frequently, use alcohol-based sanitizers, avoid touching their face with unwashed hands, wear masks when experiencing respiratory symptoms, maintain physical distance when ill, and remain at home during sickness. Parents are advised to immediately bring children with respiratory symptoms to the nearest health center, while older adults and immunocompromised individuals are encouraged to seek prompt medical consultation at the earliest signs of infection.
The latest figures demonstrate that COVI
D-19 continues to circulate within communities, emphasizing that sustained surveillance, early medical evaluation, responsible personal hygiene, and timely public health interventions remain essential to reducing further transmission and protecting vulnerable populations.
