Doctors are also warning that there is a shortage of the MMR vaccines at the moment.
At the same time, Polio cases possibly due to the Polio vaccines are rising in the city. Though not uncommon, circulating vaccine-derived polioviruses (cVDPVs) can emerge and lead to outbreaks of paralytic polio as well as asymptomatic transmission in communities with a high percentage of under-vaccinated children.
This is a developing story, and Thailand Medical News will be providing more updates as more official data is released. Till now, there has been no official comment from the health authorities on the outbreak situation in Karachi.
There has been no genomic sequencing done yet on the measles strains causing the outbreak and doctors are concerned that due to the severe symptoms that many of the infected children are exhibiting, there could be a very high possibility that a more virulent strain of measles could be at play.
