U.S. Medical News: America Facing A Severe Shortage Of Various Cancer Drugs Including Methotrexate, Cisplatin, And Fluorouracil. Many Americans Will Die!

U.S. Medical News: The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) has issued warnings that the various cancer drugs are in shortage in the country including Injectable methotrexate, cisplatin, and fluorouracil.
Many of these generic drugs are used to treat common cancers in both adults and children and the shortage is adding undue stress to doctors, oncologists and hospital personnel as some now have to resort to using less-effective substitutes or even use lower than recommended doses as stocks are literally hard to come by.
Such practices are adding to risk that many cancer patients in the United States might end up dying and in fact numerous reports are already emerging that many patients across the country are have already died as a result of being unable to access certain key drugs. This is not something that is expected to be heard about in a highly developed and wealth country like the United States.!
Already U.S. Medical News coverages are showing trends where doctors have to make stressful decisions as to who lives and who dies due to these drug shortages!
Its not just the three cancer drugs methotrexate, cisplatin, and fluorouracil that is in shortage, since late January 2023, there has been a shortage of Novartis AG's Pluvicto (injectable lutetium vipivotide tetraxetan), used to improve survival time in patients with metastatic prostate cancer.
The shortage of the drug has already claimed a few lives to date.
Also, since January 2023, another drug to treat bladder cancer called BCG or Bacillus Calmette-Guérin has been in shortage and once again many lives have been affected.
Despite extensive media coverage about the shortage of both Pluvicto and Bacillus Calmette-Guérin, nothing has been done and the shortages continue.
Since August 2022, it has been highlighted that various other drugs used in cancer care has been in shortage including iodixanol, iohexol, cytarabine, dacarbazine, fludarabine and tocilizumab are in short supply and to date, the issues have yet to be resolved!
All these shortages are leaving Americans with cancer with no treatment options! But hospitals and health officials are not making it publicly known yet!
Oncologist are warning, “American cancer patients may have already exhausted other treatment options and have few remaining choices. Oncology drug shortages reduce the expected survival times of patients, which leaves them less time to spend with their loved ones. It's truly a tragedy. People will die from this shortage”
It was reported that methotrexate, which is used to treat cancers such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children, started becoming scarce since late February 2023. It is also used to treat conditions such as bone cancer and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Cisplatin is used to treat conditions such as metastatic ovarian and bladder cancer while Fluorouracil is used for cancers in locations such as the colon, breast, pancreas, and stomach. Both drugs have been scarce since later February 2023 as well.
While many pharmaceutical companies are claiming that they are facing manufacturing issues due to disruption in supply chains, a few key reasons are emerging for these shortages that are also being witnessed in Europe and in some other countries in Asia such as Japan and also in both Canada and Australia:
-Firstly, it seems that China which is one of the largest supplier of raw materials for the manufacture of APIs or active pharmaceutical ingredients used in the manufacture of various drugs is deliberately stopping or reducing the supply of some of these raw materials.
-Secondly, some of the drug companies, who actually have stockpiles of the relevant APIs are deliberately using the excuse of shortage of APIs and raw materials to push up drug prices and increase their profitability.
-Thirdly, red tape and bureaucracy from drug regulatory agencies like the U.S. FDA in approving generic alternatives, in licensing manufacturing facilities etc
It was reported that some pharmaceutical companies are refusing to take new orders and are entertaining existing clients who are agreeable to new price increases.
Meanwhile the oncology drug shortages reduce the expected survival times of patients, which leaves them less time to spend with their loved ones. It's truly a tragedy unfolding in the United States and Europe.
Many pharma companies are telling drug regulatory agencies, health officials and hospitals that they can only start replenish some of these drugs either late April 2023 or June 2023 or even later!
The resupply dates are causing a worry to many oncologists and hospitals as many people are expected to die from these shortages!
The Biden administration and health officials from the White house have not made any public comments about these cancer drug shortages neither have there done anything to address these shortages.
The cancer drugs shortages are coming at a bad time as cancer rates are increasing not only in the United States but also globally and along with the fact that exposure to the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the spike proteins either through infections or “prophylactics” are expected to increase the risk of developing various cancers and also help accelerate the progression of existing cancers!
