Canada Medical News: Shortage Of Pediatric ICU Beds Due To An Onslaught By Various Pathogens: SARS-CoV-2, RSV, Influenza, Norovirus, Strep A, Rotavirus!
Canada Medical News
: There is now an acute shortage of Pediatric ICU (PICU) beds and even beds at neonatal intensive care units (NICU) as the number of critically ill children is rising on an exponential basis daily in Canada.
Already hospitals are facing an overwhelming number of adult patients due to COVID-19 and other respiratory infections but the rising number of children badly affected by a variety of infections is literally driving even some hospitals to the verge of total collapse.
Initially, starting around mid-October 2022, RSV infections starting infecting many children in Canada with many developing disease severity and contributing to pediatric hospital admissions.
By November 2022, the number of children getting seriously ill in Canada started rising dramatically with H3N2 influenza infections also becoming a major contributing factor.
By late November, even SARS-CoV-2 infections started becoming a contributing factor to pediatric hospitalizations as about 9.9 percent of all COVID-19 infections were children under the age of 11 years.
Since then, cases of invasive group A strep infections, rotavirus infections and even norovirus in
fections have also joined the rising RSV, Influenza and COVID-19 infections and causing emergency units at various hospitals across the country to be overwhelmed.
Various Canada Medical News
outlets are also reporting that hospital conditions are so bad in Canada along with a shortage of doctors and healthcare staff…..some who are sick themselves… that some parts of Canada are now requesting help from the Red Cross and emergency transfers of patients across to private hospitals in the United States are also becoming a new norm.
Some provinces in Canada are also asking retired doctors and healthcare professionals to come back and help.
The rise in pediatric infections in Canada is similar to what is happening in the United States and in parts of Europe and soon in Asia and also in Australia.
Contrary to what some charlatans are saying that ‘immunity debt’ is causing these surges of pediatric respiratory infections in Canada, United Sates and Europe, the reality is that previous asymptomatic and symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infections have not only affected the robust innate immune systems of children and made their immune systems dysfunctional, but in some cases, COVID-19 induced immunodeficiency is also at play.
It is also believed that the change in the global human immune landscape has also propelled certain other common pathogens to evolve and mutate, spawning new strains that is also causing these new pediatric and even adult respiratory disease surges.
The situation in Canada, Europe, Australia and even Asia is not expected to improve, rather we can expect to see conditions deteriorate badly in coming weeks and months as even more interesting new SARS-CoV-2 variants and sub-lineages start displacing the existing BA.5 variants, BQ.1 and BQ.1.1, XBB variants. The CH.1.1, CH.3, XBJ and XBK, BR2.2 and their other various sub-lineages are expected to lead the next cluster of predominant variants and sub-lineages in the ongoing continuing onslaught.
We can also expect to see the rise of other opportunistic pathogens and also see new strains of common pathogens emerge. New measles strains, new HPV strains and new HIV strains and hepatitis strains are expected to make their debut in early 2023!
