Medical News: New plant-based formula blocks hormones inflammation and bacteria linked to prostate enlargement
Benign prostatic hyperplasia, or enlarged prostate, is one of the most common health problems affecting older men. It causes troubling urinary symptoms such as weak urine flow, frequent urination at night, urgency, and incomplete bladder emptying. These symptoms may not be life threatening but can seriously reduce quality of life. Now, scientists from the University of Salerno in Italy and Anvest Health s.r.l., also in Italy, have developed and tested a powerful combination of natural plant extracts that could offer a safer and more effective alternative to conventional drugs.

New herbal combination blocks hormone inflammation and bacterial drivers of prostate enlargement in laboratory tests

Researchers at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Salerno, and scientists from Anvest Health s.r.l. worked together to evaluate a specially designed herbal formulation called PhytoBPH-Mix. This Medical News report highlights how the formulation targets several biological processes linked to prostate enlargement. Unlike standard medications that focus on only one mechanism, this natural mixture attacks the condition from multiple angles simultaneously.

Targets Dangerous Hormone Activity
One of the most important findings was the herbal mix’s ability to block the enzyme 5α-reductase. This enzyme converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a stronger hormone that stimulates prostate growth. Excess DHT is a major driver of prostate enlargement.

Laboratory tests showed that the herbal mixture significantly reduced this enzyme’s activity in prostate cells. In fact, the combined formulation was more effective than individual plant extracts alone. Researchers found that the mixture improved enzyme inhibition by about 15 percent compared to some individual extract preparations. This suggests a powerful synergistic effect when the natural ingredients are combined.

The ingredients in this new herbal formulation used in the study included Serenoa repens (saw palmetto), Pygeum africanum, Urtica dioica (nettle root), Epilobium angustifolium, and Protium heptaphyllum, along with antioxidants such as lycopene, vitamin E, zinc, and selenium. Each component plays a role in reducing hormone stimulation, inflammation, or oxidative damage inside prostate tissue.

Strong Anti-Inflammatory Effects Discovered
Chronic inflammation is another key factor that drives prostate enlargement. Inflammation causes immune cells to release harmful molecules such as IL-6 and TNF-α, which promote tissue growth and swelling.

The researchers discovered that the herbal mixture significantly reduced levels of these inflammatory molecules in prostate cells. The effect was stronger and more consistent than with individual herbal ingredients. The formulation reduced inflammation in a dose-dependent manner, meaning higher doses produced greater protective effects.

Th is is important because long-term inflammation contributes directly to prostate enlargement and urinary symptoms. Reducing inflammation could help slow or prevent disease progression.

Unexpected Antibacterial Protection
Another surprising discovery was the formulation’s ability to fight bacteria. Tests showed that the herbal mixture inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli, a common bacteria linked to prostate infections and urinary tract inflammation. By reducing bacterial growth, the formulation may also help prevent infections that worsen prostate inflammation and symptoms. This antibacterial activity adds another protective layer not commonly seen in standard treatments.

Natural Ingredients Work Together for Stronger Protection
Scientists emphasized that the mixture’s success comes from its multi-target approach. Instead of addressing only hormone activity or inflammation alone, it simultaneously blocks hormone conversion, reduces inflammation, protects against oxidative stress, and fights harmful bacteria.

This comprehensive approach may offer advantages over standard drugs like finasteride and dutasteride, which can cause side effects such as reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, and hormonal imbalances.

Conclusion
The study clearly demonstrates that this herbal formulation offers a promising and potentially safer option for managing prostate enlargement. By targeting hormone activity, inflammation, oxidative damage, and bacterial threats all at once, the mixture addresses the root causes of prostate enlargement rather than just masking symptoms. Although these results are currently based on laboratory studies, the findings strongly support further clinical trials in humans. If confirmed, this natural approach could transform prostate care by providing effective symptom control with fewer side effects and improved long-term safety compared to conventional medications.

The study findings were published in the peer reviewed journal: Nutrients.
