The situation contrary to Chinese government and media saying that it the
coronavirus epidemic peaking is far from over. In fact it is just starting as studies are emerging that the
Covid-19 coronavirus is mutating and becoming more virulent coupled with the fact that it is spreading undetectably as a far rapid rate.
China itself witnessed a massive jump in the last 24 hours, with thousands more all over the country in critical conditions and the number of newly infected skyrocketing.
China officially reported a massive increase of nearly 15,000 newly confirmed cases in a single day and more than 236 deaths.
The current death toll is 1367 (figures updated 1 minute ago to include additioan 5 deaths), while the total number of confirmed infected cases stands at 60 065 with more than 8,286 in severe critical condition. (these are just figures issued by Chinese health authorities. Experts elsewhere are estimating that figures now with regards to people infected with the
coronavirus in just China alone could be as high as more than 2 million nationwide out of a population of 1.4 billion people.)
China’s strategies of trying to mask the magnitude of the problem the country is facing is failing. Cities are paralyzed not because of the lockdowns but because hundreds of thousands of people are contracting the disease and hundreds more than dying despite authorities trying to cover up the actual scenes taking place in various cities.
Medical supplies are in acute shortage, there are not enough hospitals and even the existing ones are simply overflowing with medical staff overworked and themselves contracting the disease.
Epidemiologists are speculating that by the second week of March, the real magnitude of the
Covid-19 coronavirus can be seen globally, which is not going to be good.
Countries in Europe, The Middle-East , Canada and US are planning more stringent measures and are calling for an urgent meeting to declare a pandemic soon. Many have also lost faith in the WHO or World Health Organization, as it has been perceived as taking actions too slowly and also supporting China.
