COVID-19 Pandemic: The last 24 hours has seen some interesting spikes in cases all around the world and even in countries that had no COVID-19 cases in weeks or months, there has been a sudden emergence of the virus. The only countries that did not report any cases were those whose governments were famous for either concealing figures or disseminating fake news.

Brazil recorded the highest number of new infections in the last 24 hours, recording a total of 37,278 new COVID-19 infections and a total of 1,209 deaths.

India recorded a total of 13,105 new cases and the death figures were not compiled yet as of press time.

China has is seeing a sudden emergence and spike of cases not only in Beijing but also in the provinces of Hebei, Zhejiang, Xinjiang and Heilongjiang.

Countries that did not see any cases for a while are seeing new spikes including Germany with 1,797 new cases, South Korea with 43 new cases, Japan with 41 new cases.

Hong Kong reported 8 new cases.

Sweden passed the grim mark of 5,000 deaths, as cracks began to emerge in the political consensus the government has until now enjoyed over its softer approach.

The Public Health Agency said it had recorded 5,041 COVID-19 deaths, giving it the world's fifth highest death rate at 499.1 per million inhabitants.

Indonesia surpassed Singapore as the country with the highest number of coronavirus infections in South-east Asia as the world's fourth-most populous nation ramped up testing across the archipelago to contain the pandemic.

Confirmed new cases jumped 1,031 in the past 24 hours, taking Indonesia's total to 41,431, Mr Achmad Yurianto, a health ministry official, said at a briefing in Jakarta. That exceeded Singapore's tally of 41,216, official data showed. The death toll stood at 2,276, also the highest in South-east Asia.

The situation in the US and UK also is not improving with a surge of cases in both countries.  The US alone saw 25,126 new infections in the last 24 hours while it was 1,115 news cases in the UK.

Readers should are advised to note that this is not a second wave as claimed by many misleading media but only a spike in cases. In reality, we are not even in the first wave yet but merely in the trial run stages. The real first wave is expected to materialize in October or November based on the cooler season, the coming flu season and also the evolving and mutation trends of the new coronavirus.

For those skeptics of the seriousness of the COVID-19 disease, we sincerely hope that you start investing in body bags for yourself and your loved ones.
