Authorities Claim Outbreak Is Limited
Health officials said all three victims tested positive following clinical evaluation and laboratory confirmation. The Public Health System has deployed monitoring teams throughout the affected area to strengthen disease surveillance and maintain sanitary conditions.
Authorities also confirmed that two medical professionals who recently died in Barinas state are not epidemiologically linked to the Anzoátegui cases, with their causes of death still under investigation.

The ministry emphasized that hantavirus in Venezuela is primarily transmitted through exposure to virus-containing particles from rodent urine, feces, or saliva, particularly in enclosed rural or agricultural environments, and stated that there is no scientific evidence of person-to-person transmission in the country.
Experts Investigate Possibility of a New Viral Variant
Although officials have not identified the virus as the Andes strain, infectious disease specialists note that the unusual fatalities, together with reports of additional suspected infections in other parts of Venezuela, have raised concerns that a different hantavirus variant may be circulating.
The Andes virus remains the only recognized hantavirus capable of sustained human-to-human transmission through prolonged close contact. Genomic sequencing of patient samples is currently in progress, with findings expected within days to determine whether genetic mutations or an entirely new strain are involved.
