Messe Dusseldorf Asia, the organizers of the biennial Medical  Fair Thailand, announced  the initiation of a Medical Startup Park at its coming event in September at Bitec.  The Medical Startup Park will basically be a  showcase dedicated to Stage 3 and Stage 4 medical and innovative healthcare startup companies which are less than 4 years old with products that are ready to be marketed and are aiming to garner their first b2b and b2c customers.



Some of the Medical and Healthcare Startups that will be on showcase will  include health related innovations pertaining to the Internet Of Things (IoT), big data applications, wearable technologies, mobile diagnostics , new software applications and AI based platforms .

Ms Daphne Yeo, Senior Project Manager For Medical Fair Thailand commented in an exclusive interview with Thailand Medical News, ”The Medical Startup Park is not just a showcase or a show within a show, rather its also a networking platform for key shareholders of the medical startup ecosystem such as industry influencers, angel investors, entrepreneurs, incubators, accelerators , technical specialists and also healthcare professionals to meet, share and discuss in order to achieve realizations of actual new marketable healthcare and medical innovations.”

The debut of the Medical Startup Park will see nine companies participating from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. Some major breakthroughs being unveiled includes a new diagnostic for oral cancer and a food recognition app that helps a user monitor their calorie intake.

Thailand is currently a suitable hotspot as a Regional Hub For Medical Innovations and Startups in the Asia Pacific region considering the following factors: 1) of its 29,000 licensed doctors, more than 75 percent of these have post graduate specialties from the US, Europe and Australia, 2) it has the highest amount of JCI accredited hospitals in the region ie 320 out of 1852 hospitals in Thailand, 3) it has one of the highest number of accredited medical schools in the region, 4) it has a growing number of biotech and also IT specialists in the region, 5) cost of doing business and ease of doing business is extremely cheap compared to other comparable destinations and finally, 6) a government that  is greatly committed and has created an environment of supporting startups and innovations through the establishment and funding of agencies like NIA (National Innovation Agency), DEPA (Digital Economy Promotion Agency), NSTDA (National Science And Technology Development Agency) and TCELs (Thailand Center For Excellence Life Sciences), all of which can be attributed to great vision of Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Dr  Kakanand Srungboonmee, an academic innovator and startup founder from the Centre Of Data Mining and Biomedical Informatics at the Faculty Of Medical Technology, Mahidol University welcomed the initiative of the Medical Startup Park. Dr Kakanand said that such an initiative would greatly benefit professionals in the  medical and healthcare community interested to pursue innovation and startup projects as there will be a platform for them to meet, exchange and also learn the business and technical aspects , which most healthcare professionals might lack.

Another component of the Medical Startup Park will be a Startup PodiumTM which is the brainchild of Virtual International Business Accelerator, VibazoneTM (a premier online resource and networking site for innovators, entrepreneurs, funders and hubs). It involves a carefully curated programme that includes a comprehensive line-up of ‘fireside chats’, presentations and panel discussions with industry leaders and experts from the medical, healthcare, financial, business and tech industries. Topics will include updates in healthcare scenes, distribution networks, women in med tech and latest technical platforms with speakers from various countries including United States, China and Singapore. The Startup PodiumTM will be moderated  by Mr Muthu Singaram, a prominent innovation and startup consultant and owner of Vibazone.

The Medical Fair Thailand 2019 will run from the 11th to 13th Of September 2019 at Bitec, Bangkok . This year will see more than 1,100 exhibitors from over 60 countries with many new product debuts. Its a must a for all involved in the medical and healthcare industry.
