Medical News: While preliminary observation reports from Taiwan and Hong Kong show that many infected with the new SARS-CoV-2 variant called NB.1.8.1 Variant are exhibiting symptoms such as persistent coughs, irritated throats, nausea/giddiness, headaches, loss of appetite, gastrointestinal issues, blurred vision, extreme fatigue, inability to concentrate on simple task like TV viewing, reading, etc, another new and unique symptom has been also discovered.

Persistent Low-Grade Hyperthermia (Not Fever) Emerging as One of The Symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 NB.1.8.1 Infection

Many of the infected are not exhibiting fever per se but rather are having low grade chronic or persistent hyperthermia. Hyperthermia differs from fever in that the body's temperature set point remains unchanged. Hyperthermia, also known simply as overheating, is a condition in which an individual's body temperature is elevated beyond normal due to failed thermoregulation.

Typically, the normal human body temperature is between 36.5 to 37.5 degrees Celsius. In many of the infected, their body temperatures were found to be having persistent body temperatures of between 37.6 to 38.1 degrees Celsius with many complaining of a strange body warmness and discomfort.

However, unlike normal hyperthemia, there was no heavy sweating, rapid breathing or fast, weak pulse.

Also, none of the drugs most commonly used today to suppress fever such as salicylates (eg, sodium salicylate and acetylsalicylic acid), ibuprofen, and the other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and the para-aminophenol derivative acetaminophen helped.

Doctors told Thailand Medical News that the condition can be brought upon by the NB.1.8.1 either attacking the hypothalamus gland directly or indirectly or due to low grade sepsis.

It should be noted that already there are reports that a number of individuals infected with the NB.1.8.1 variant developing stroke or organ failure after 3 to 4 weeks. Incidences of intestinal ischemia also seem to be rising among the infected.

This is a developing story and Thailand Medical News will be providing more updates and official doctor or researcher quotes etc.
