Singapore COVID-19 News: First it was Israel and then Singapore, both model countries for take up rates of COVID-19 vaccines that are now seeing new surges of COVID-19 infections among both the vaccinated and unvaccinated. And mind you not all cases are mild among the vaccinated as what most mainstream Western media are propagating it to be. Cases of disease severity, hospitalizations and deaths among those who were vaccinated are also rising! (But often the Western media are saying that these people already had existing comorbidities hence it was not the vaccines failure’s fault!)
In the case of Singapore that has a population of more than 5.6 million people, a total of 9,114,751 doses have been administered in Singapore under the national vaccination programme as at Sept 26. Both first and second doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty and Moderna vaccines are currently being administered. Singapore health authorities reported that in addition,192,119 doses of other vaccines recognized in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing, which includes includes Sinovac-Coronavac, Sinopharm and AstraZeneca, have been administered as at Sept 26, covering 88,524 individuals. It is estimated that roughly almost 83% of the country has been vaccinated.
Surprisingly however, in the last few weeks, Singapore is witnessing more new COVID-19 surges.
In the last 24 hours, Singapore reported a record 2,236 new COVID-19 cases and five COVID-19 deaths bring its COVID-19 death to 85. Among the dead, two were fully vaccinated and one partially.
Among those hospitalized due to disease severity or are in ICUs and are on ventilators, 50.1 per cent were fully vaccinated and 49.9 per cent were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.
As of yesterday, a total of 408 cases required oxygen supplementation and 47 were in the ICU. A total of 1,325 individuals were hospitalized for COVID-19 infections.
The numbers are expected to be more in the next few hours as many are undergoing testing or are waiting for test results. Hospitals again are starting to be overcrowded and local physicians are saying that the situation is worsening.
According to various
Singapore COVID-19 News media, an interesting observation seen among the infected in the new surges that were symptomatic is a faster degeneration of the lung functions, the need for oxygen supplementation and also faster disease progression.
Singapore authorities have yet to announce as to what major SARS-CoV-2 variants are at play in these new surges but Thailand Medical News hypothesizes that it could be the R.1 variant of the Delta AY.29 that are causing these new surges.

It is expected we will see more breakthrough COVID-19 infections globally in coming weeks along with an increase in disease severity and also mortality even among the vaccinated. This is something that the Biden administration, the US CDC and US NIH is aware of but are not making it public yet.
