COVID-19 News: A new study by researchers from the University Of California, San Francisco indicate that the prostate glands has a high expression of ACE-2 receptors and also TMPRSS2 receptors which are the key targets of the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus and that the gland has a high susceptibility of being targeted by the novel coronavirus and could also be another factor that accounts for the higher proportion of male victims in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pre-print study which is being reviewed for publication into a leading medical journal is available at Biorvix. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.24.056259v1.full.pdf+html

The study lead by Dr Franklin W. Huang found that there was a high expression of both ACE-1 receptors and also TMPRSS2 receptors on the epithelial cells of the prostate gland leading to the fact that besides the respiratory tract, lungs, intestinal tract and kidneys, the prostate glands were also potential targets and past autopsies of dead male victims had overlooked studying the glands to discover the method of attack and destruction by the novel coronavirus.

Already there were studies that indicate that the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus also could attack the testes and urinary tract of male patients besides their kidneys and that doctors need to pay attention to male patients who had ‘recovered ‘ from the COVID-19 disease as they could develop fertility issues as a result of the damage caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus to the testes and ducts.

Thailand Medical News had broken that story as early as 16th Of February but was initially ridiculed by certain ignorant Italian journalists and also an American Fact—checker by Facebook but since then more than 6 other studies have confirmed our story and we are in the midst of legally suing these ignorant non-medically trained journalist. It also sad that Italy has had such a high numbers of deaths and also had  more than 150 doctors dying from the crisis when it should have been their journalist who have been spreading fake news and misinformation to the Italian public.

The research findings of the distinct populations of cells in the prostate co-expressing  TMPRSS2 and ACE2 raises the possibility that sex differences could influence COVID-19 disease pathogenesis in males differently than females.

Further research into TMPRSS2 expression and its modulation within the lung and other relevant cell types that may impact ACE2 and SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis is needed.

Research is also warranted to see if inflamed, overgrown prostates, infected prostates, prostate cancer ie all common occurrences in men above 40 could be a factor in more ACE2 and TMPRSS2 receptor expression leading to such individuals being at a higher risk.
